Media
The following growth media are routinely used in our lab for the culture of vibrios; click on each medium for a complete description. More information can be found in the book chapter Isolation, Enumeration, & Preservation of the Biology of Vibrios by ASM Press.
Strains are normally distributed as active cultures in slants of TSA covered with sterile mineral oil. You can recover the strains by collecting with a microbiology loop and streaking it in TSA or other general media (LB, Nutrient, etc.); it is not recommended to use selective or differential media as these can stress bacteria.
Slants can be kept at room temperature indefinitely or refrigerated but never in the freezer.
